Grand Champion Purebred Barrow
Champion Duroc Barrow
2018 The Exposition
Shown by Hunter Logue
Bred by Weisinger - Sire: Last Drop
This season I didn’t have a lot of reds in my December sale I think we only offered three Jurassic pigs and two Last Drops. It was pretty awesome to see that every one of them made it to The Exposition and all placed top of their classes and had a very good show season.
The Champion Duroc Barrow was out of Last Drop at Crossroads Genetics. When (Mark) Hoge and I went on our boar tour last year, we said he was one of our favorite red boars, and we had to use him. The sow was a Backroads that I bought from Hoge a year ago. As little hogs, I offered this one barrow and kept a boar that is now at Upperhand. They call that littermate boar Special Delivery. |

3rd Overall Purbred Barrow
Champion Yorkshire Barrow
2018 The Exposition
Shown by Kelsey Klitzman
Bred by Stohlquist - Sire: Dominator
First and foremost, these big wins cannot be established by our firm, unless we have families like the Klitzmans. Their loyalty and hard work is what it takes to make our genetics surface. A win for their family was well-deserved! Kelsey’s barrow was a Dominator out of a Capital Gain daughter that our son Ethan showed, and we retained back into the herd. That litter generated Kelsey’s 3rd 2019 Overall Barrow, Ethan’s 2019 5th Overall Division 2 Yorkshire Gilt, and a boar we are going to put into our stud. Again, we feel privileged to be involved in such a great industry and work with the very best families. |

His dam is sired by $31,000 Hot Head (Hot Route). This is another boar that we purchased from Wintex at the Perfect Timing Pig Sale a few years ago. The excitement level here in Colusa, California, at Ottenwalter Show Pigs couldn’t be higher as our main showpig season quickly approaches. We are beyond humbled by our recent success of having bred both the Grand and Reserve Grand Champion Market Hogs at the National Western Stock Show, and we couldn’t be more happy for those exhibitors and their families who got it done.
Mikayla Grady’s Grand Champion was lot #180 in our Aug. 30 online sale and was a Wedding Night x On Target. Wedding Night continues to get it done at the highest levels for us. His 2018 successes included the Grand Champion Barrow at the Texas State Fair, Reserve Grand at the California State Fair, and Reserve Grand Commercial Gilt at OYE, among a long list of others. At sale time, this barrow had all the parts and pieces of one we thought could be truly great, and we are so glad Mikayla and her family made him the best he could be. Congratulations, guys, you deserve it!
Sterling Boyle’s Reserve Grand Champion was lot #130 in our August 30 online sale, and he was an Outta Line x Scared Straight. He enjoyed a very successful show career for Sterling, posting multiple wins at many big jackpots and regional shows before capping off his career as Reserve Grand at Denver. His big win marks the second major show where Outta Line has sired the Reserve Grand — his first litter included Jordan Shepherd’s Reserve Grand Barrow at Tulsa. Many Outta Line sired individuals continue to post big wins in the Southwest each week, and as the breeding season approaches he will see heavy use again here in Colusa.
Ottenwalter Show Pigs is a 350-sow showpig operation located in Colusa, California. We have 22 boars that we offer semen sales on, including Wedding Night, Outta Line, and Junior- Wedding Night’s clone. We host five farm sales in the spring and our summer/fall sales are all online via thepigplanet.com. We pride ourselves in the level of service we are able to offer to our customers and do our best to take care of everyone who comes to us. Special congratulations again to Mikayla, Sterling, and their families on these big wins!
national spotlights - 2018

Ottenwalter Show Pigs is extremely proud to congratulate Hailey Montgomery on her Grand Champion Overall Gilt at the Arizona Nationals. Hailey’s gilt was lot #29 in our June 21 online sale, and she was sired by Wedding Blues and out of a Fame Monster 54-5 sow. Two of the three gilt division winners in Arizona were bred here and sired by Wedding Blues, and we were also proud to see Dustin Andrus’ Division 1 Champion alongside Hailey’s in the Grand Drive.
Hailey’s big win is a special story, as this was only her second year showing pigs and her first time attending a national show. Hailey and her family live in Susanville, California, which is a few hours northeast of Colusa up in the mountains, and they have a long drive just to buy show feed. We, personally, know the level of commitment she put into her project from the weekly video updates she sent, which were often in the snow and at dusk after sports practice. Later, her dad told us about the long hours she put into walking each of her four Arizona pigs for 40 minutes every night during the month of December.
When she arrived in Arizona, Hailey’s gilt was clipped and presented to a tee. She never tired during show day and drove like a dream every trip through the ring. She later sold in the gilt sale at Arizona Nationals for $26,000. It sure looks like all of that hard work paid off, Hailey! We are very proud of you and your tremendous accomplishment.

Grand Champion & Champion Cross
2018 NAILE
Amerrah Hennessy
Bred by Knauth - Sire: Bucket List
A big congratulations to Amerrah Hennessy on her recent win at the North American International Livestock Exhibition. Not only was it a big win for the Hennessy family, but also an exciting one for our family, as well. We were unable to be in Louisville for the show, but thanks to webcasting, we were glued to our computers watching.
This big win helps us cap off an extremely successful year, in a few breeds, at all levels of competition. Amerrah’s barrow was sired by Bucket List, and out of one of only two litters farrowed for the late spring season. His mom is a Distinct X Wake Up sow, that comes from the heart of our crossbred herd. She is a littermate to Incline, the crossbred boar Heimer Hampshires purchased from us at the 2017 Crossbred Classic. Her mom, the Wake Up sow, is a mate to the 2015 Bronze Medallion Crossbred Barrow at OYE shown by the Zeller Family.
We would like to give a big thank you to Travis Platt for trusting our program, and getting this pig in the right hands. Also, thank you to Morgan Hollowood and Joe Espey for their work in getting the barrow dialed in and looking the part.
The friends and family that reached out to us with well wishes was unbelievable. Thank you all, it truly means so much to have so many peers cheering you on. Congratulations, again, to all involved in this incredible win! We hope to continue to work with you all in the future! We welcome anyone to come to the farm this spring and check out pigs out of this barrow’s mom, and the rest of our powerful sow lineup!
-The Knauths

Grand Champion Barrow
Champion Hampshire Barrow
2018 NJSS
Shown by Olivia Caldwell
Bred by Korb - Sire: World Class
Oliva’s barrow’s pedigree is Hampshire royalty at Korb Farms as you can find KORB dominating hamp boars on both sides. World Class (bred by Cook Family, housed at Shaffers) was sired by KORB All Eyes and the Dam of Olivia’s barrows is a KORB The Sheriff. Also, this barrow’s granddam is a littermate to David’s 2011 Champion Hampshire Barrow (Augusta x Black Jack) at the Ohio State Fair. Which David said “It was the biggest thing I won in my show career”. This barrow was beat only once in the hamp barrow ring his whole show career. |

Reserve Grand Champion Barrow
Champion Duroc Barrow
2018 NJSS
Shown by Ella Bobell
Bred by Beyers - Sire: Stand Tall
This barrow comes from the heart of the Beyers’ program. The dam is Castin Rash’s 2016 Overall Champion Gilt at Illinois State Fair, and she is a littermate to Lane Rinderer’s Champion Land of Lincoln barrow and Carson Osborn’s Champion Purebred Gilt at Oklahoma State Fair. Those three littermate’s pedigree read: Honeymoon x Lifetime. You may recall Beyers offering a Lifetime sow at The Exchange at expo this year. That was the Dam of those three littermates and Granddam to Ella’s barrow. She sold for $16,000 to Adam Beck and Family. Stand Tall has had an extremely impressive summer, and no surprise one of the pigs sired by him found their way to the top. |

4th Overall Barrow
Reserve Duroc Barrow
2018 NJSS
Shown by Shayle Varner
Bred by Fecke - Sire: Blocked Caller
The mother of this barrow is a littermate sister to the Reserve Champion Bred and Owned Gilt that Lairds Premium Blend Genetics bought from us at the 2013 NJSS. For those of you who have visited Fecke Livestock, you know that you don’t see many red sows roaming around. With that being said, for a red sow to be in the herd she needs to be really special. This is what through Bryce Bedeker for the loop when he came through to look for Hampshire and Yorkshire barrows. A big thank you to Bryce for placing this barrow for us! NJSS Gilts |

Grand Champion Gilt
Champion Duroc Gilt
2018 NJSS
Shown by Cody Maxwell
Bred by Maxwell - Sire: I'm the One
Cody’s gilt is the product of a 2017 WPX match made in heaven. Cody was honored to win Reserve Overall NJSA Gilt at 2017 with a gilt sired by Attention bred by Knight Genetics. Cody and his family decided to continue their “side project” of raising pigs, and brought his Attention gilt home and bred her to I’m the One, the 2017 WPX Champion Duroc Boar. Pretty awesome to see a daughter “one-up” her mom at a NJSA show. |
