Judging Contest Classes CLASS 7 - Chester Gilts Placing: 2-3-4-1 Cuts: 3-4-3 I like the Chester gilts 2341. There's a good trio of gilts up top that offer some differences, but the longer I study then that dense haired 1's far reaching pieces stamp her kind the hardest to make. Not only is the big footed stout featured gilts density of skeleton impressive, but what really gets me fired up is for such a power piece her skeletal quality and basic build stamp her the versatile breeding piece. So now it's up to the breeder to unlock her earning potential, because her breeding value is limitless. Now I'm not saying it's not close up top, because that 12 litter gilts elite status comes from the side. That's a stout skulled broad backed gilt, who's shape to her cage sets the standard for a more proportional build. It's just unfortunate a collection of little things keep an awfully good one in second. That's the smaller footed frailer ankled gilt that's more ordinary ahead of her blade. Even so there's plenty of chester boars that can add some natural density and feature, and in the middle never questioned her more current kind. The squarer made gilts broadness of build coupled with her ability to push her hock further behind her tail should allow her to drop a more popular set of prospects on chips. Now just because she's third doesn't mean I classify 4 as bad livestock. I like the highly presented fresh gilts elevation and natural spread. It's just pretty apparent thats a double edged sword. Her elevation comes at the cost of a coarser build, that's the straighter bladed gilt who's length of hip positions her to be more upright from hock to ground. Regardless amongst a bottom pair where neither are the epitome of skeletal quality I never wavered from using the bolder bodied wider constructed gilt to sort. Her natural spread and shape to her rib should allow her to roll up and down with more ease in the crate. Now just because she's fourth doesn't mean that the breeder in me wouldn't be willing to finance the semen investment on that neat headed 1 gilt's attractive silhouette. It's just pretty apparent that in this particular setting that's the flat bodied shallow gilt who's too closed up down low.
