Keri Landry Exhibitor Spotlight - The Pig Planet

We caught up with Mr. Brandon Yantis before he judges the Barrows at the 2023 Louisana State Livestock Show. Check out his thoughts below...

What’s a non-negotiable as you sort a class?
Plain livestock don’t work for me.

Biggest pet peeve when judging?
I have typed, deleted and typed again here. I can say I really don’t have too many things that annoy me. You never know any exhibitors situation and the things they are working on at home. With that being said you can tell the ones that are not trying to the best of their ability. I am not okay with giving less than 100%

How do you keep from mental exhaustion during a long day of judging?
My breeder mentality keeps me focused on identifying hard to assemble traits that we are trying to incorporate at home. You never know where you will identify something that doesn’t always belong together.

Does any advice from mentors come to mind as you judge?
This will probably sound bad, but honestly no. When I am evaluating animals I am 100% focused on doing just that. Evaluating. I tune everything out and give those exhibitors and their families my honest opinion.

If you aren’t at a pig show or judging, where might we find you?

Driving, sitting on a bucket studying, carpet farming with my boys, or enjoying as many family moments as I can.

Tell us about your family!
My wife Sarah and I have 3 amazing young men.  Briggs (7), Bronx (2.5), and Brik (9 Mos). We strive to assemble the most unique stuff we can within the Chester, Duroc, and Spot breeds with a small sow herd.
