inside the ring

We caught up with Mr. Ryan Sites before he judges the Purebred Market Hogs at the 2022 NAILE. Check out his thoughts below... |
Are you big on grand drive speeches?
Not normally, I do believe in congratulating the kids that have spent countless hours working with their projects.
What is your dream job?
Honestly, my current job that allows me help kids across the country with feeding and managing their projects is something that I have and always will enjoy doing.
What is one thing you feel like is important that showman have gone away from? Why?
I understand that everyone still wants the pigs head up as high as possible, however allowing that pig to walk and stroll is also every bit as important. I constantly voice this with young showmen that pig has to walk before he can walk with his head up.
Are you big on first impressions? If so, why?
Yes, I believe first impressions are very important. The ones that are very memorable in a show are usually the ones that the first impression hit you very hard.
Who got you involved in the livestock industry?
I guess you could say I was born into it. My Grandpa raised Hampshire hogs for a long time before my dad started raising Chester’s as a freshman in high school. Since the time I could walk, we were going to sales, shows, and breeders houses all over the country.
Tell us about your family!
We just this last year moved to Granite, Oklahoma where Wendy’s family is from and also allowed us to get closer to my family as well. Wendy, our son Rhett who is 11 and I, run 25 sows consisting of Durocs, Chester’s and crosses. Wendy and I started Sites Livestock 14 years ago and can’t think of a better way to spend our lives. |
