inside the ring

We caught up with Mr. Russell Pedrett before he judges the barrows at the 2023 San Angelo Stock Show. Check out his thoughts below... |
What’s a non-negotiable as you sort a class?
Looking at every animal!
Biggest pet peeve when judging?
A pig that is bow-legged.
How do you keep from mental exhaustion during a long day of judging?
Constantly reminding myself to focus! Sometimes chewing on a plastic bottle cap helps.
Does any advice from mentors come to mind as you judge?
Absolutely! Honestly, mentors throughout my life like my Grandpa and my Dad who would always tell me to pick the best animal every time and don’t pay attention to whose driving them or standing behind them. Also my experiences from livestock judging many years ago, where we were taught to select the most complete, problem-free animals always come to the forefront of my attention while judging a show.
If you aren’t at a pig show or judging, where might we find you?
Breeding sows, notching pigs, home with my family, or on a rare occasion fishing on the Sacramento River.
Tell us about your family!
My wife Amanda Pedrett is an attorney. Our three kids are Sadie who is 3 years old, Henley who is 1, and Grady who is 2 months old. |
