Pick One: Ford, Dodge, GMC or Chevy? Funny you ask...I’m current truck shopping
If you could build a show barn of your dreams what are a few things you would include? My brother and I grew up making the most out of what we had for a show barn. As a kid I remember sitting and thumbing thru the first Sullivan Supply catalogues compiling a wish list for Santa. As funny as this will sound, I have personally seen some of the best show pigs housed and raised in the most primitive environments. My dream barn would be open air, extra roomy pens, 10 pens max (less is more), sound system, toilet, and all white walls and gates. Yes I’m a clean freak.
If you could only drink one thing the rest of your life other than water what would you choose? Iced Tea - unsweetened with 2 packets of Sweet-N-Low
Do you have any superstitions? Show Day superstitions?
No, I’m to old for that stuff.
What's one piece of advice another fellow judge or mentor has given you about judging that has stuck with you?
My dad gave me the best advice ever as I was walking out the door to judge my very first show. “Judge and place the animals as you see them. Don’t play any games or bullshit. You were one of those kids yourself and remember how it felt when that was done to you”.
Who's one judge you would tell a kid interested in judging to go listen to their reasons? This isn’t a one name answers for me. I grew up a cattle kid and always looked up and still love to listen to Jack Ward and Scott Schaake. Today, it’s hard for me to deny Kelton Mason’s livestock talent and natural ability to be so precise and real. Recently, there has been an impressive influx of female talent and have enjoyed watching women like Jessie Judge and Kyndal Reitzenstein dominate college livestock judging while making themselves permanent fixtures as national show judges.
