What is your background in the swine/livestock industry?
Raised as Doug and Becky Linville's youngest daughter with sister Katie.. I was a pig kid. I loved it since the word go. Growing up a breeders kid, definitely made my love for the people behind the animals, the breeding, genetics, and farrowing the core of my love for the industry. I grew up raising hamps, spots and crossbred pigs and showing at local, state and Type Conferences across the country. Showing my first pig at the Indiana State Fair at the age of 4, I guess gives the decades I have loved the show ring and show pigs.
How did you get started?
I have the heard the story of falling out of the baby carrier my mom had me in while working in the farrowing house.. right into a crate. I am not sure if that is what stunted by growth but I think it definitely could have started the love addiction I have for the farrowing house and the show pig industry.
What are some likes or dislikes you have?
Likes, I love kids and livestock. Good people. Jesus. Family. Friends who are family and my team I am honored to work with at +e. Huge fan of people with grit and honest grace that push daily to be better no matter the circumstance and I really also like sparkling water and hot green tea!
I do not like dishonesty. In any form. I also do not like peas or lima beans!
But the real question is probably on showmanship.
Likes: eye contact, connection with your animal, showing your pig and not yourself. Driving your pig like you are showing to win. I hear a lot about showmanship showing and showing to win. I think every time you hit the ring it should be game time. The intensity level, the drive you have needs to be on. I may be old school but I want to see your animal at the proper pace, not a crawl. Show pig heads lifted but not abnormal to where it doesn't show them at their best. Great attitudes regardless if things go wrong. Because in life they can. It is how you react.
Dislikes - distractions. things "over" the animal - clothing, towels, brushes or showmen. Be natural, drive the animal to the best of their ability and your ability.
Brush or Towel?
Brush. If it is in your pocket.

The ones with my people. The people who surround you are the ones that help build you. I am forever grateful to my livestock people. My best friends today are the ones I rode miles with and celebrated the wins and loses with when I was showing as a kid. And now we are doing the same with our own children. |
