What is the first State Fair you judged? State Fair of Louisiana

What is the best State Fair Grand Drive you've been a part of?
Several come to mind but Indiana State Fair showcases the youth of Indiana and their projects in incredible fashion.

What is your favorite state fair food?
Ribeye steak sandwich or steak kabobs

What is your favorite carnival ride?
I almost forget state fairs have rides but I’m down for anything that doesn’t go in circles.

What is your favorite fair concent/event to watch?

Toby Mac

What is the best carnival prize you have ever won?
IUnlimited Free refills at the lemonade stand across from the swine barn.

Keri Landry Exhibitor Spotlight - The Pig Planet

We caught up with Mr. Jeremy Cantrell before he judges the purebred barrows at the 2021 The Exposition. Check out his thoughts below...

Pick One: Ford, Dodge, GMC or Chevy? Ford

If you could build a show barn of your dreams what are a few things you would include?
Fly system that actually works and since I’m dreaming, self cleaning pens.

On a more serious note. Ventilation, temperature control, proper pen space and design as well as tack area should all be considered if building a new facility.

If you could only drink one thing the rest of your life other than water what would you choose?
Sweet Tea

Do you have any superstitions? Show Day superstitions?
I did have a purple spray bottle with some girly designs that was made for Jacie when she started showing. The debut was WPX 2015 and she was named champ York!  Needless to say, having that spray bottle in my hand was a must have for the next several years. I even “let it rest” on the shows that didn’t hold as much weight. I’m sad to report we no longer have that tricked out spray bottle and even had a few black cats pass in front of us and we are still very blessed in life and the ring.

What's one piece of advice another fellow judge or mentor has given you about judging that has stuck with you?

There will always be a need for livestock judges who can evaluate accurately and place with integrity. Always be that guy no matter what.

Who's one judge you would tell a kid interested in judging to go listen to their reasons?
I would treat this question like I treat an all you can eat buffet. Watch as many of those elite guys as you can, and absorb as much as your belt will handle. When it’s had time to digest, go get another plate full. This industry is filled with amazing minds, grab as much as you can and form your personalized touch to the way you sort shows.

What's your showring pet peeve?
The hand shake from a kid that didn’t do as well as they thought and forgot it wasn’t personal. You know the one where they try to break your hand and dislocate it from your arm. Haha
