Keri Landry Exhibitor Spotlight - The Pig Planet

We caught up with Mr. Brian Arnold before he judges the barrows at the 2021 Team Purebred National Show. Check out his thoughts below...

Pick One: Ford, Dodge, GMC or Chevy? Ford but I’m good with any of these.

If you could build a show barn of your dreams what are a few things you would include?
Man would I love to see someone (maybe Purdue Engineering?) come up with a solution to recycle shavings for reuse, or find a good way to easily package and resell.
Otherwise, I’d say anything that makes it more comfortable and user friendly for pigs and kids as long as it’s not screen devices.

If you could only drink one thing the rest of your life other than water what would you choose?
Coffee

Do you have any superstitions? Show Day superstitions?
No superstitions. With our kids we just try to make it there, do our best, learn, have fun, and look forward to the next chance.

What's one piece of advice another fellow judge or mentor has given you about judging that has stuck with you?

Dan Hoge shared many great pieces of advice over the years with judging teams. One Abraham Lincoln quote he often shared was, “No man stands so tall as when he stoops to help a child.” I think this advice can keep us centered on what’s most important with youth stock shows, developing youth.

Who's one judge you would tell a kid interested in judging to go listen to their reasons?
Dan Shike. He’s a great educator, evaluator and communicator. I think his experience provides him a very valuable perspective across species. And outside the ring he’s a great human being I’d want my boys to look up to.

What's your showring pet peeve?
Any rare instances of poor sportsmanship inside or outside the ring.
