Kilmer

We caught up with Mr. Kipton Edie, exhibitor of the Grand Champion Purebred Gilt at the 2022 NJSA Southeast Regional. Learn a little more about Kipton below!

Age: 12

Hometown: Lebanon, IN

Besides winning, what was your favorite part about this show?
Staying in an Air BnB with all of my friends, and having an awesome tent set up to keep our pigs warm! Getting to show a Berk for the first time at an NJSA event was pretty cool too!

Does your family have any traditions when traveling to a show?
Usually we take our camper to all the shows and my whole family gets to come. Georgia was a little different than normal but it was fun to stay in a house with my friends.

Tell us a little bit about your winner:
Chanel was maybe the loudest pig I have ever shown. Anytime you walked past her pen she squealed until you gave her some feed. She loved going to shows and would try to run to the trailer when we loaded her.

What class did you have to do the most homework to catch up on from being gone?
Math

Least favorite chore:

Washing pigs. I always get soaked.

What's one thing you really focused on for this show?
Showmanship. My Berk gilt could be hard to show at times and I really had to practice a lot to get her dialed in. Especially knowing the carpet might throw her off, which it did at first.

With this being one of the major shows of the summer, explain how excited were you to take home a Top 5?
I was very excited! I have done well with Vic all summer and I was really happy to do well at the biggest show of the summer!

What was something new you tried this year since you were able to be home more often than normal?
I was able to whip train most of my pigs myself because I was home more. I also participated in the Backyard Bonanza virtual shows which was something very new!

What is your favorite show product to use?
Smolder. It makes my pigs skin and hair look great everyday.

When I grow up I want to be....

Have a show pig operation with my best friends and raise and sell show pigs.

Showing animals has helped me to develop......
A better understanding of animal nutrition and how important it is for my show pigs. Also, being a team player and always helping and supporting my friends.

Brushing and smoldering my pigs.

Who is the person you look to for advice right before you go in the ring for that last minute pep talk or pointer:

Hunter Logue
