Besides winning, what was your favorite part about this show?
Yes the win was fun, but seeing the support I have in my community and all the fist bumps, smiles, and congratulations I received made me truly realize how great this industry is. It really emphasized my motivation to give that same support to my teammates when they get a win.
Does your family have any traditions when traveling to a show?
No consistent traditions, we do like to stop and grab a nice shake from sonic after a long nights work at the barn or at a show.
Tell us a little bit about your winner:
This hog will always be one of my favorites I’ve shown because she always provided consistent success. My advisor and supporting family always told me it takes a special one to be really good day 1 and continue to get even better throughout their growth. This gilt really showed me how rare that is, but also proved that it is possible. On a more specific note, her mother was raised by Larry Jasper of Oklahoma and was also the high selling Berkshire gilt at OYE last year. My gilt is a littermate to “Fair Warning” which is a boar in stud at Coulson Showpigs.
What class did you have to do the most homework to catch up on from being gone?
Math
Least favorite chore:
Definitely cleaning pens, mainly because it’s always a struggle on who has to take the wheel barrow!
What's one thing you really focused on for this show?
I focused on choosing my spots and knowing when to drive my hog hard, as well as when to let her rest. Throughout this season, I’ve learned that hog showing is very much a marathon rather than a sprint.
