exhibitor spotlight

We caught up with Ms. Brynn Younge, exhibitor of the Grand Champion Commercial Gilt at the 2021 Iowa State Fair 4-H Show. Learn a little more about Brynn below! |
Age: 14
Hometown: Wellman, Iowa
School: I'm currently a freshman at Mid-Prairie High School
Favorite thing to do at shows (besides showing):
I love hanging out making memories with family and friends. I also enjoy meeting new people and learning how much we have in common.
What was the personality of your barrow?
My barrow "Creed" was always so friendly and loved getting attention. He loved to eat so I would typically feed him first to keep him happy in the barn and at shows.
The hardest thing about showing pigs is....
Hands down, saying "good-bye"! I create such strong, special bonds with my livestock and each pig has unique personalities so it's never easy to sell them. However, I always look foward to filling the barn again with new pigs.
What's the last thing your parents or supporters tell you before you go in the ring?
At the Iowa State Fair, the intensity built each time I entered the ring. I was reminded before entering the Championship Drive to enjoy the moment and take it all in. My Uncle Shane Brinning, would always tell me "Be a Hammer".
Favorite Show Pig Product to Use:
My favorite show pig product is Champions Choice. We have used it from the beginning.
Favorite Song or Band:
My favorite song that reminds me of showing my barrow is "Legends Are Made". He was so special as he was champion at the SE Iowa Showdown, All-Iowa Showdown and the Iowa State Fair 4-H Market Hog show. So he indeed was a legend for me!
Favorite Sport Team:
Iowa State Cyclones!
