KADEN MASON
Tell us a little bit about yourself.
My name is Kaden Mason, I'm 11 years old and have one sister, Kamlynn. Our parents are Kelton Mason and Carrie and Josh Brockman. We live in Montgomery, Texas, where I am a member of the Montgomery FFA. I show pigs and cattle, judge livestock and love watching football.
What made your 2019 Show Season special?
Showing the Grand Champion Barrow at San Antonio, San Angelo, and State Fair of Texas all in one year is something I never dreamed possible. Last year, I also exhibited the Champion Landrace and Reserve Lightweight Division Crossbred at Denver, Reserve Yorkshire at Fort Worth, and the Grand Champion Barrow at my county fair. Last year was really awesome from the beginning to the end and will always be a year I’ll remember.
What have been some keys to your showing success?
I would say working hard is a given key to success, but I would also say that all the people that have helped me at the shows, at home, my friends, the breeders and my parents and grandparents have been big reason I have been able to be successful.
What’s your favorite barn chore?
I like mixing/measuring the feed.
Besides showing, what’s your favorite thing to do at livestock shows?
Hanging out with my friends – playing football with them, or playing cards, or just working with them is fun.
Livestock families spend a lot of time on the road. What’s your favorite thing to do during the drive to a show?
I watch a lot of sports broadcasts and football games. I also play Mario on my Nintendo Switch. Coming home fromthe show, I like to talk about how I showed, the animals that were there, etc.
What advice would you give to other showmen?
Always work hard, even when it isn't exactly fun, it will pay off. Don't worry about where you placed, as much as, just try to do better showing than you did the last time you showed. Never give up.
