Breeder spotlight

We caught up with Mr. Dylan Cain of Cain Super Sires, breeder of the 5th Overall Crossbred Barrow (Champion Purebred Influenced Barrow) at The 2022 Exposition!
|
Pedigree/Genetics of Champion:
This barrows pedigree reads THUNDER COUNTRY X KNOCK’IN BOOTS
All Time Favorite Boar:
My all time favorite boar is hands down King. The reason being that he was the first boar we kept out the first duroc sow my grandpa Earl ever bought for me and for him to go on and stamp the duroc breed was pretty special to me.
What's next for your operation?
The next step for our operation is to try and get back to that point and more and just continue to make hogs better in general.
Favorite breed to raise:
My favorite breed to raise is definitely durocs from a young age I loved the red ones because we didn’t have any at home and when we decided to add them to our herd it definitely helped our farm.
Who was someone who helped you get your foot in the door and get your operation started?
The person that helped me get my footing is definitely my grandpa Earl if it was not for him I would not be where I am today or achieved any success what so ever. He has paved a path for us kids to walk now all we have to do is stay on it. |

We caught up with Mr. Lee Cain of Cain Super Sires, breeeder of the 2020 Champion Purebred Barrow (Champion Hampshire) at the National Junior Show. |
Pedigree/Genetics of Champion: Overwhelming x Fugitive
How did you get involved in the swine industry?
Dad started raising pigs in 1970.
With this being one of the major shows of the summer, how rewarding was it to capture a win?
It is tremendously rewarding to see our customers have success and get to share the joy of winning with them.
With the pandemic, what struggles have you faced as a breeder and how do you think the show world will evolve with the problems we are facing?
The spring and summer have been a struggle with the shows being changed and postponed. Hopefully with the success of the National Junior Show things will start to get back to normal, or at least more normal.
What breeding decision are you most excited about for the next breeding/farrowing season?
With 400 sows, we try not to get hooked up on one mating. The main goal for us is to make better hogs each and every time. |
